What is LEED™?
|
 |
|

The Mark Twain House is CT’s
1st LEED™ Certified building |
|
LEED™
stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and
was developed by the US Green Building Council. It is a
green building rating system that is a voluntary,
consensus-based national standard for developing
high-performance, sustainable buildings.
|
LEED™
covers 5 areas of a buildings impact: Sustainable Sites,
Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources
and Indoor Environmental Quality. Each area has a series of
points that one earns, with the maximum being 69 points. If
you earn 26 to 32 points, then your building can be
Certified; 33 to 38 points earns a Silver rating; 39 to 51
points earns a Gold rating and over 52 points achieves a
Platinum rating.
LEED™ has several standards. They are the New Commercial &
Major renovation projects (LEED-NC), Existing building
operation (LEED-EB), Commercial interiors projects (LEED-CI),
Core & shell project (LEED-CS and homes (LEED-H).
Connecticut has several LEED Accredited Professionals. To
