Come join Brian Driscoll at is family owned business for a presentation and tour of the turbiine and press.

Join CTGBC's tour of the only working press powered by wind energy. Phoenix Press produces its own renewable energy on-site through the use of a Northwind100 wind turbine situated along the Quinnipiac River in New Haven Harbor. As the largest wind turbine in operation in CT, Phoenix Press is located in a historic building more than 100 years old. The printing company utilizes the power of the wind off Long Island Sound to provide 1/3 of its energy usage. Energy goes back into the grid when it is not being used.

Their brand "Wind to Print" communicates the generation and use of on-site power harnessed in their back yard and illustrates their commitment to clean renewable energy.

Join USGBC for this engaging webinar session discussing the May addenda revisions to IEQ Credit 8.1: Daylight and Views undefined Daylight, and how these revisions are intended to help project teams earn the credit. Gain a deeper understanding of daylight best practices as our subject matter experts walk through examples and the available USGBC tools and resources. Upon completion of this webinar session, attendees will be able to articulate what changes were made to IEQc8.1, outline strategies for achieving the credit, and document credit achievement.

Session Objectives

Articulate common challenges faced in previous attempts to achieve IEQ credit 8.1 Daylight and Views – Daylight.

Compare and contrast pre-addendum and post-addendum calculation methodologies used to achieve IEQ credit 8.1 Daylight and Views – Daylight.

Program Description:

This workshop provides essential knowledge of the LEED Rating Systems and sustainable building concepts for those seeking a better understanding of LEED or pursuing GBCI's LEED Green Associate credential.

By presenting LEED concepts at the credit category level – across building types and rating systems – and basics on the building certification process, this workshop provides the foundation required for any 300-level LEED education offering. Real project examples help demonstrate and reinforce learning.

This workshop is co-sponsored with the Construction Institute.

Learning Objectives:

Identify the key components of the LEED Rating System.
Discuss the basic LEED Certification process.
Describe the intents and associated concepts of each LEED credit category.
Explain regulations, recognitions and incentives related to each credit category.
Recognize successful LEED strategies and measurements for achieving credit category goals.

Learning Level:

This is a 200-level course. Familiarity with USGBC and LEED is recommended.

Cancellation Policy:
Attendees may cancel registration prior to 5/20/12 and receive a refund less a $20 administrative fee. After 5/20/12, no refunds shall be issued for attendee cancellations.

If the minimum attendance of 20 is not reached, the CTGBC reserves the right to cancel the workshop up to one week prior. All registered attendees will be contacted via email and refunds issued in the event that the CTGBC cancels the workshop.

Fairfield Police Station Cogen Dedication, Tour (08 Jun 2012)

All CT Green Building Council members are invited to tour the Fairfield Police Department's new cogeneration unit at 100 Reef Road.

The Town of Fairfield is proud to announce the completion of the new 50Kw generator at the police headquarters at 100 Reef Road. The generator will operate 24hours a day, 365 days a year as a true cogeneration project, producing not only electricity, but also heating and cooling. The generator is a true bargain for the local taxpayer:

The $422,500 capital cost of the generator was financed entirely by grants: An AARA bloc grant from the federal government provided $400,000. The Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control provided the last $22,500. The generator was made by Tecogen and installed by Controlled Air.

The Tecogen generator will save the Town about $50,000 a year in electric bills after all costs are paid.It should produce about 417,000kwh annually and avoid the purchase of another 70,000kwh for air conditioning in the summer. Moreover,the generator will produce enough heat to avoid the purchase of 17,047 ccf of natural gas each year.

The Town has qualified for the special cogeneration rate for natural gas, reducing its cost by 37%

Fairfield bid out our electric supply, saving 28% compared to UI rates

The Town has a 20 year maintenance contract with Tecogen guaranteeing that the generator will operate at a minimum of 90% availability at 90% capacity for 20 years.
